Privacy: Can I Make A Blog Private

Q: Privacy: Can I make a blog private?

A. Privacy in Discussion blogs results from the Discussion privacy settings. These are set by the Discussion moderator(s). Click Edit Discussion from the home page of a Discussion you moderate and you will see a list of areas you can change settings in. Choose the Privacy Settings option and you will see a list of choices. Most people choose one of the pre-set levels of privacy, ranging from completely open to completely closed (however, even in an open Discussion, only members can write posts to the blog).

Sometimes you may wish to change the blog settings separately from the wiki, email and other settings. If you would like to have an open Discussion with a completely private blog, for example, you would click customize these options under whatever setting your Discussion has now, and then change the blog setting individually under who can edit. Note that once you restrict access on a Discussion, you can't undo the setting, so make sure that you have talked it over with Discussion members before changing the settings.

Your personal blog is readable by anyone on the CN, though no one can read it without a CN user name and password. If you wish to create a more private personal blog, you could choose to set up a personal Discussion (see I Want To Find My Personal Friends Quickly And Easily), where you can modify the Discussion's blog privacy settings to where only members can view the blog, and only the moderator can create posts.
