How can I email a special announcement to all Group members, even ones who have not yet joined the Community Network or are set to read on the Web only?

On some Groups, especially news or announcement Groups, not all Group members receive the email messages in their email inboxes. They may have chosen to read the Discussion only within the Community Network environment. If there is a very important message that needs to be seen by everyone, you can send an "announce" message. To send an important message to an entire Group, regardless of whether the person has an email subscribed or not, the moderator does this:

For a list called "list@YOURCOMMUNITY.ORG", send an email to: "list-announce@YOURCOMMUNITY.ORG"

The email must come from an email address registered to a Community administrator or a Group moderator. Emails to the -announce address for any Group that are sent from other email addresses are forwarded to the Group moderator.

Please use this feature responsibly, since it will go out to people who may not wish to get large numbers of email messages.

Note that once a message to an -announce version of a Group is sent, the moderator will need to approve the message. To do this, the moderator can either respond to the email message notifying him or her of the post, or go to the Email Archive of the Group and approve the message there. Instructions on how to find pending messages appear at the top of the email archive pages when there are pending messages.

If there is an extremely urgent announcement for everyone, there is also an option that will send to every email address in the Group, even those in the community database who have not signed on to the Community Network. Use -all in place of -announce in the instructions above, and post a message to the general community Group and everyone in the database will receive the message. Please bear in mind that some people may not be on the Community Network because they truly do not want email from the community. Only use this option for vitally important announcements.
