Hi, all.  I am trying my hand at creating a blog.  So here goes.

The Southern Maine RSVP Capacity Corps project is off and running.  Prior to our MSS Partners Meeting in Washington earlier this month, we gathered members of our Steering Committee together to orient them to the purposes of the grant and an outline of our plans.  We received a lot of good feedback, some of which was reinforced by the feedback we received from you in Washington.  Chief among these insights was the importance of getting our volunteer selection process and training process in place before we start bringing in volunteers to help the Agency.  And that includes providing training to the Agency staff.

To that end, we put out an appeal to our Steering Committee members to see if any of them would like to volunteer to help us develop the training curriculum, and one so far has responded in the affirmative.  So it looks like we will get to test the model from the start.

It was very exciting to be together with all of you in Washington.  Larry and I came away with an enhanced sense of the importance of this mission, to change public perceptions about the roles and gifts of older adults in community life.  We look forward to being part of this adventure and working with all of you.

Ken
